We have 2 livestock guardian dogs ('LGD's) here at CB Pygmies to help protect the goats from various local predators. They act as a deterrent for the most part, although they are built to fight off predators if need be. They are not pets, but they have been highly socialized and are friendly with people. LGD's work best in groups of two or more dogs, to fend off predators and keep the herd together.
Caboose is a Great Pyrenees/Akbash cross.
Ned is our Maremma Sheep Dog (many thanks to Napa Grass Farmers for this wonderful dog!).
